Water Filter Cartridge Guide
February 17th, 2009, Posted in General Water FiltersThe problem with water filters is that they do not last forever, at some point you’ll have to replace the filter itself or the water filter cartridge. Whether this is in 2 weeks or 6 months depends entirely on the manufacturer and how much you use it. As a general guide, under sink water filters tend to last around 6 months before the cartridge needs to be replaced during normal use. If you use the filter a lot more than normal though you’ll obviously have to replace it sooner.
Luckily in most cases you don’t need to replace the whole filter, just the cartridge inside the filter. This means that the expensive part can be kept the same saving you a lot of money in the long run. The cast majority of modern filters use the cartridge system but before buying a filter you should make sure this is the case for your one as it can potentially save you a lot of money. Water filter cartridges come in all shapes and sizes and cost a wide range of prices too, so it isn’t really possible to narrow down how much the cartridge will cost without first knowing which filter you have.
Some of the companies you might want to look out for when getting a new filter cartridge are Cullgian, Sears and Ametek. Each one has its own size and standard so you need to make sure you purchase a cartridge that fits your current filter or else you’ll find it useless.
There are also water filter cartridges for many different types of filter. Whether you have an under sin, whole house or household filter you need to make sure you’re purchasing a filter for the right type otherwise it probably won’t work correctly.
